Our Worship

We worship God through ancient structures of prayer + gathering (we call this “liturgy”)

and in the process, we make generous room for childlike wonder and delight (for all ages).

For the first half of worship, we feast on the living Word of God as given in Holy Scripture; we hear passages of the Bible read aloud, we say some back and forth to each other, and the priest preaches a sermon that usually lasts about 8-12 minutes.

Then the feast crescendoes as we are all unite together around God’s Table in the Eucharist - you might have heard it called communion or the Lord’s Supper. Eucharist is Greek for “giving of thanks.”

In this part of the service, we bless bread and wine in the name of Christ, where we remember and are re-membered into Christ’s Body

Before we are sent back out into the world to love and serve God, Alleluia, Alleluia!

Who we are.

  • “Jubilee” is a word that not only means festival or celebration, but also reflects a year of liberation, restoration, sabbath, and joy as commanded by God in Scripture. The Jubilee year took place every 50 years as one whole year set aside for extravagant feasting, debt release, community tending, and ensuring that those who have nothing to eat are fed from a bountiful table. We want to embody the spirit of Jubilee always, because Jubilee reminds us both that we need each other, and that God’s justice is first rooted in God’s joy.

  • We are an Episcopal Church in the Diocese of Texas which means our worship is rooted in an ancient liturgical tradition, and our practices reflect the ancient way of not only welcoming marginalized peoples, but centering our Christian call to lead and serve. We meet in a shopfront that was once a theatre, a dance studio, and a Gymboree, and our pulpit and altar table were donated from churches that long predate ours. We’re big on old things being made new!

  • Most of our worship structure can be found in the Book of Common Prayer with additional liturgies from across the Anglican tradition.

The service lasts about an hour. The first half of the service opens with music, prayers, readings from the Bible, and a sermon. During the second half of the service is centered around celebrating Communion.

Children are always welcome and wanted in worship; we are blessed by their wiggly, curious, audible encounters with God! We have an in-sanctuary nursery area that is professionally staffed should little ones like more room to roam.

One Episcopal prayer asks God to “shield the joyous.” We believe that is what we are called to do here: shield, amplify, and celebrate joy in the face of cynicism, oppression, and despair.

Join us at 9:30am on Sundays
Lake Creek Square, at the intersection of Lake Creek Pkwy and 620.

A holy welcome.
